FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – The Amelia Concours d’Elegance in 2022 took place last weekend and we showed up to capture everything worth seeing. Located in northern Florida on Amelia Island, the natural setting provides a glamorous (though not quite Pebble Beach levels of glamour) backdrop. The ocean and the Ritz-Carlton hotel are nearby, and much of the classic car world is there. Plus, it’s warm and sunny near Jacksonville, making it a great late winter escape to a car show.
Of course we came for the cars, and that’s exactly what you’ll see scrolling through the gallery above. There were planes, dogs, and a classic Concours-style award ceremony. The turnout was high, even if it doesn’t look much like our pictures – the media is getting access to the field early so we can get footage like the one you’re viewing here, without a lot of people getting in the way. By midday it was busy enough to feel like it was rush hour trying to get up and down the show’s main roads.
The manufacturer’s presence was noticeable, but not stifling. BMW showed up with the coolest of the OEM supplied classics. The E31 M8 prototype shown only once in its lifetime in the US. This outrageous M8 has a custom-built V12 engine that delivers 630 horsepower and is studded with cutting-edge carbon fiber parts. Unfortunately, that M8 was never put into production.
The field consisted of more than 200 cars, ranging from horseless carriages to modern supercars and so many eras in between. Best in Show went to a 1934 Duesenberg, and if you’d like to learn more about the show’s winners, check out our winners post here.
When you’re done staring at the multimillion-dollar metal in the gallery above, tell us which one is your favorite in the comments below.
