GM recalls nearly 700,000 SUVs over wiper problem

General Motors is recalling 682,000 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain compact SUVs because their wipers could fail.

The recall affects certain 2014 and 2015 model years vehicles.

The recall targets ball joints in the wiper control module that could corrode. The corrosion can cause one or both of the windshield wipers to fail, obscuring visibility and increasing the likelihood of a crash.

GM says dealers will inspect the wiper modules and repair or replace the unit at no charge if necessary. Owners will be notified by letter from May 2, but if you have purchased your Equinox or Terrain used there is always a chance that you will not receive a letter. Visit the NHTSA’s recall website and enter your vehicle’s VIN to see if it has any impact.
