Steve Asbell, president of Disney-owned 20th Century Studio, assures James Cameron’s Avatar 2 will be released in 2022.
When the first Avatar film was released in 2009 and blew audiences away with its dazzling visual effects. The film won three Academy Awards and became the highest-grossing film of all time. Since then, it was briefly dethroned by Avengers: Endgamebefore it took the crown after a reissue.
Since the release of the first Avatar movie, James Cameron has somehow been working on a sequel. The director has written and rewritten the script for the film numerous times, eventually starting production in 2017 and not finishing until 2020. The extensive CGI work and editing started but, as with many films, was delayed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, we’ve only gotten a few images of the upcoming movie, but it will still be released in 2022.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Asbell, president of 20th Century Studios, assured that the film would be released later this year and that there are no plans for further delays:
“Yes. It will. Really. It’s going to blow people away. You’re not ready for what Jim is doing.”
