Fantastic Four’s Michael Chiklis on How the Reboot Can Succeed

Earlier Fantastic four star Michael Chiklis has opened up about how he thinks the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot could succeed.

The Fantastic four movies have never had the best time in live action. The first attempt was a film made by B Movie legend Roger Corman to settle a rights dispute and was reportedly never intended to be released. The second time came in the form of the mid-2000s Fantastic four movies. Neither film was particularly well received, but the former managed to make enough money to warrant a sequel.

Several years later, Fox took another chance with the Fantastic four franchise with the Josh Trank directed movie. The end result was a poorly received film that bombed at the box office and stood out more for its behind-the-scenes drama than anything else. And at least one of the stars of the mid-2000s movies doesn’t want it to happen again.

If there’s one thing most people would agree on about the mid-2000s movies, it’s that Michael Chiklis’ performance as Ben Grimm aka The Thing was one of the film’s best features. Speaking to Screen Rant, the actor opened up what he thinks it takes to make the reboot of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe a success. In particular, Michael Chiklis thinks that the film should not be too serious and should not try The Dark Knight route:

“Go to CGI if you can [laughs]† Wardrobe was slightly different but it was still a pretty awesome experience. Just understand that the real tone and tenor of The Fantastic Four is the way we did it. It’s not meant to be dark and gloomy. It will never be The Dark Knight. Don’t try to make it that way. Don’t expect it to be. The Ever-Lovin’ Blue-Eyed Thing was from Brooklyn and he was a Dodgers fan. It was a lovely family and that’s the way it should be. It wasn’t meant to be hardcore and dark and gloomy. Try to make it so, you won’t succeed.”

Here is the synopsis for the 2015 Fantastic four Restart:
