Jim Carrey has admitted he has mixed feelings about Paul Dano’s version of The Riddler in The batter.
During the height of Jim Carrey’s popularity in the 1990s, he starred in the live-action Batman movie, Batman forever† In the film, he portrayed one of the film’s main antagonists, The Riddler, and played the character mostly for laughs. Paul Dano’s version of the character, on the other hand, couldn’t have been more different.
In the batterPaul Dano’s Riddler is portrayed as a serial killer who targets Gotham’s elite. The character’s appearance drew comparisons to The Zodiac Killer, and the eventual reveal of what he was up to was disturbingly relevant. Based on what Jim Carrey says, it’s all just a bit too dark for his taste.
While speaking to Unilad, Jim Carrey admitted he hadn’t seen the film, but what he had seen of it was just too dark for him and he was concerned about copycats. He praised the actor, acknowledging that what they were doing was different, but insisting it wasn’t his thing:
I have not seen it. It’s a very dark version. I have mixed feelings about it. To each his own and such. I love him as an actor, he is a great actor. I worry about sticking people’s faces and encouraging people to do the same. Some sick there that could take that method. I do have a conscience about the things I choose. Robotnik has cartoon bombs and no one gets hurt. I know there’s a place for [The Batman]And I don’t want to criticize it, but it’s not my kind of thing … it’s very well done, those movies are very well made.”
