Matt Reeves On Superman Appearing In ‘The Batman’ Universe

Matt Reeves recently discussed whether Superman could appear in the batter universe.

the batter will lead the Dark Knight in a new but familiar direction as Christopher Nolan. Like Nolan, Matt Reeves puts Batman into reality, shying away from the fantastic elements for now. This also raises the question of whether other DC heroes like Superman will interact with Robert Pattinson’s Batman in the future.

Matt Reeves recently spoke about the possibility of Superman appearing alongside Robert Pattinson’s Batman in an interview with Collider. this is what the batter director had to say about Superman:

‘You mean if it could? Is that what you say? I mean, if something like that were to happen, because I was very careful with… What I’m trying to do is take… I did this in the Apes movies too, and even clover field, this idea of taking that one fantastic element and then having everything around it so that it will be as grounded as possible so that it could feel… I want it to feel emotionally real and everything to feel very believable. In this movie, even beyond what I did in those movies, I’ve tried to find the practical, believable version. If you were to suddenly find out in the Batman world that there was an alien that was Superman, that would be a big shock. I mean, people should say, oh my God, and maybe that would be the only fantastic element.”

While Matt Reeves didn’t rule out Superman for the batter sequels and spin-offs, the filmmaker also admitted that he is much more interested in exploring the world of Gotham City:

“But to be honest, that’s not the point right now, to figure out how to do that. Look, we should be so lucky that this is a world that people embrace and they say, oh my God, we want to see what would happen if those things collide. I think if that challenge ever presents itself, it would be exciting to investigate, but I should try to do it through this lens. You know what I mean? And that’s absolutely right, that for me right now this world is the place I want to focus on.”

Superman may not pass in the batter universe, but Warner Bros. still has plans for the Man of Steel. In particular, JJ Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates are developing a Superman reboot that will cast a black actor in the role. Meanwhile, Michael B. Jordan is working on a limited series for HBO Max around the Val-Zod version of Superman.
