Samuel L. Jackson Not Interested In DC Movie Roles Compared To Marvel

Samuel L. Jackson has some skepticism about DC Comics movies compared to Marvel.

While the rivalry between DC Comics and Marvel Comics has always existed, in recent years fans have taken that rivalry into a new light as both brands have had their own ongoing franchises on the big screen. In regards to DC, it hasn’t had the luxury of consistent critical success that Marvel has had over the years, but that’s not to say there haven’t been releases that critics have liked, including Wonder Woman, Shazam!, Birds of Prey, The Suicide Squad and The batter. However, Marvel’s Samuel L. Jackson remains skeptical of DC’s pending cinematic releases.

Samuel L. Jackson currently plays Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has cast shadows over DC during press tours for his films in the past. In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he was asked whether or not he would consider taking a part in DC, to which he responded as warmly as he could:

“Well, I mean, we’re all – actors are mercenaries. It’s kind of what we do, we act for who we act for, but… But I don’t know if I’m going to read a DC script that will let me go“Yes, this is dope!” because you expect things to happen, because… I mean, I’m a comic book fan, so I’ve always read comic books.”

As Samuel L. Jackson continued to make his point, he reveals that as a comic book reader he was drawn more to DC’s characters than to Marvel:

“And to be honest, I don’t even read Marvel comic books…I kind of look at it, and when I discovered myself as Nick Fury, I happened to see myself and [say], ‘What am I doing on this cover?’ And that was it, I put the book back… I read DC Comics all my life, you know. We all got through Superman, Batman, Silver Surfer… Aquaman, I was a swimmer… I was all for DC. But I don’t know what’s going on with them cinematically…’

While fans don’t expect to see him in a new DC movie anytime soon, Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising his role as Nick Fury in the upcoming new Marvel Studios series. Secret invasion. Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald and Carmen Ejogo also make up the cast of the show.
