Shazam! Fury Of The Gods director David F. Sandberg has an honest reaction to the opening film against Avatar 2†
For the longest time, Avatar 2 was set to open against Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom for the holiday season of 2022. Many wondered if Disney and Warner Bros would really let the two films compete at the box office or if either of the two would be delayed. It turns out that Warner Bros. was the studio that blinked.
Earlier this month, Warner Bros. reorganized the release schedule for its various upcoming DC movies. This included procrastination Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom† The flashand Black Adam† Shazam! Fury Of The Godshowever, was moved upwards, making it against Avatar 2† Unfortunately, director David F. Sandberg has no illusions about what that means for his upcoming film.
Earlier this week, the Shazam director invited fans to ask him something or tell him a story on his Instagram when the power went out in his house. He was asked if he was happy with the film’s new release date and the fact that the film was competing with Avatar 2† He stated that he was happy that the film would come out this year, but he had no doubts that he would not open until the film Avatar follow-up:
Here’s the synopsis for the first Shazam! movie:

In the case of Billy Batson (Angel), this 14-year-old foster child can, by shouting one word – SHAZAM! – turning into the adult superhero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an old wizard. Still a kid at heart – in a ripped, divine body – Shazam enjoys this grown-up version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with it! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning from his hands? Can he skip his social studies exam? Shazam pushes his limits with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he will have to master these powers quickly.
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.
