‘Spider-Man’ star Kirsten Dunst is poised to return as Mary Jane Watson

Spider Man star Kirsten Dunst is ready and willing to return to the franchise as Mary Jane Watson.

Last year, Loki made its debut on Disney Plus and established that there was indeed a Marvel Multiverse. The events of that show opened the door to many new possibilities, including allowing certain Marvel actors to return to their roles from previous film runs. The best-known and so far only example of this was the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective versions of Spider-Man. They were also joined by the likes of Willem Dafoe and Jamie Fox, but they aren’t the only actors looking to return.

In the first three Spider Man movies, Peter Parker’s main love interest was Mary Jane Watson, played by Kirsten Dunst. Like the rest of the original cast, she left the role after original director Sam Raimi left the series. In the latest movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker was vague about what had become of the two, but stated that they made it work. Following the film’s success, Kirsten Dunst has spoken vocally about wanting to return to the role.

In a recent interview with Backstage, Kirsten Dunst echoed the sentiments, citing the fact that she has a house to pay for and kids have to go to school:

“You know I’d join that multiverse! I feel like I’m the only one not participating. I’m like, ‘Please put me in. Put me in the lineup.’ I have to pay for my house and children.”
