Zoe Kravitz On No Auditioning For Catwoman In ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Zoe Kravitz thought about not being able to audition for Catwoman in The dark knight rises.

It’s been 10 years since we last saw Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman on the big screen. The last time we saw her was at Christopher Nolan’s The dark knight rises, in which she was played by Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway. 10 Years Later, Zoe Kravitz Wears the Iconic Whip in Matt Reeves’ The batter.

When The Dark Knight Rises still casting for his new Catwoman, Zoe Kravitz was rejected from auditioning for the role for the problematic reason claiming the approach for the film was to not go “urban.” while promoting the batter, she reflected on that experience with The Guardian:

“I don’t know if it came directly from Chris Nolan. I think it was probably some kind of casting director, or a casting director’s assistant… I’m a woman of color and I’m an actor and was then told I couldn’t read because of my skin color, and that the word urban was thrown around like that, that was the hard part at the time.”

Zoe Kravitz’s portrayal of Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman has received high praise from critics and audiences alike, with many believing her performance in the batter stands as its own next to the likes of Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman returns and Anne Hathaway in The dark knight rises. Some are also hopeful that Zoe Kravitz’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman, with numerous Matt Reeves’ HBO Max series in Gotham City in the works, would have one of her own too. Time will tell.

Here’s the synopsis for it The batter:
