The fall tech event season is upon us and IFA 2022 in Berlin, Germany will kick off on September 2 as the season’s first major tech conference with major brands such as Samsung, Asus, LG, Qualcomm, Honor, TCL and more there. impress with their latest products.
We expect a deluge of new laptops, tablets, headphones, smartphones and more from hundreds of exhibitors over the course of the five-day event and we’ll be sure to bring you news about the best products as they are announced.
We’ll be updating this page during the conference, but until the news starts to break, here’s a look at what we expect to see at IFA 2022 and how you can watch it.
How to watch IFA 2022?
Depending on where you are, you can rely on us to bring you the highlights every day, because with the convention taking place in Germany, the keynote presentations won’t always take place at the ideal times for US viewers. The convention runs through September 6, but most presentations take place early and in many cases slightly before the start date.
There is still a IFA virtual platform available to help you view all the exhibitors, but with the convention largely returning to an in-person event, the keynotes will be available via the YouTube channel for the respective companies.
Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon will lead the official event. While the company won’t have any laptops or phones of its own to show off, there’s plenty to talk about for the leading chip maker. While the next-generation mobile chipset won’t debut here, Qualcomm says we could hear more about the next-generation processor for Windows on ARM before its annual event in November. In addition, there will certainly be discussions about 5G and AI, which have turned from buzzwords to cornerstones of the tech world. It may not be as tangible as some other products, but we bring you the most impressive news from Qualcomm’s presentation.
One product that we’re sure Asus will be showing off at IFA 2022 is the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, as the company features it prominently on the countdown timer to its event on August 31 at 8 a.m. Eastern Time. indeed two days before IFA kicks off, but Asus says this is the IFA announcement, so we’re letting it go. This should be more of a real launch availability event for the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, which Asus showed all the way back at CES in January, so it’s safe to assume more laptops and maybe new monitors or other accessories are coming as well.
What should Samsung announce? We just had Samsung August Unpacked announcing the Galaxy Z Flip 4Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and the Galaxy Watch 5. Oh and don’t forget the huge Odyssey Ark Monitor. Well, we don’t expect any new phones, but rest assured, there will be something to reveal. Given the scope of Samsung, it’s just hard to know whether that will be a new washing machine, a new TV or a new washing machine with a built-in TV. There have been rumors of updates to its SmartThings IoT lineup, so if you’re a fan of smart home products, this might be the Samsung keynote for you.
Monitors and TVs are LG’s most likely offerings at IFA 2022, now that the company has sadly (but probably wisely) left the smartphone business for good. LG’s press release ahead of IFA 2022 could be listed in the encyclopedia as “vague” as the company stated it would “represent LG’s vision of redesigned technology, rediscovered lifestyles and redefined experiences.” While that didn’t get us much, it did indicate that there will be “a range of products” so we have that to look forward to.
TCL has produced some attractive budget smartphones in recent years, but it looks like there are no phones in the pipeline for IFA 2022. Based on the preview image the company shows for its September 1 press conference, we’re going to buy some new TVs, speakers, appliances and smart glasses. The latter is potentially intriguing, but for American readers, TCL doesn’t always release everything here, so maybe we’ll have to make do with the Ray-Ban Stories.
An IFA press conference that actually takes place during IFA? Going against the trend of early announcements, Honor is hosting its conference on September 2 at 11 a.m. Eastern. Honor doesn’t have a massive presence in the US, but the company produces some solid mid-range phones, we were quite impressed with the Honor 70 in our recent hands-on review. The event announcement image shows a tablet, laptop, phone and wireless earbuds. That would be quite a collection of announcements, but we’ll have to wait and see if they’re ready to reveal all that now and how much of it will go to the US
